We will be like all other nations

Posted on July 5, 2010 at 2:34 AM

The God’s plan to his people is different than we think and He acted differently than we think. A nation that lives alone (Num: 23:9) God’s plan was his children should live alone. His children should recognize from others.

The ultimate object of creating human beings was that, he wants to live with His children.

He created Adam and Eve, because He wants to live with them and their generations. But His plan failed. Satan entered and he won his ultimate object. Still God is waiting to live with His people.

When the Israel came out from the captivity of 400 years from Egypt God specifically asked them to remove all the inhabitance of Canaan. ‘For my angel will go before you and bring you to the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, and I will destroy them completely.” You must not bow down to their gods; you must not serve them or do according to their practices. Instead you must completely overthrow them and smash their standing stones to pieces’ (Ex: 23:23-24)

Mosses were telling that ‘God chosen Israel to be His people prized above all other on the face of the earth. It is not because you were more numerous than all the other peoples that the Lord favored and chose you – for in fact you were the least numerous of all peoples. Rather it was His love. God is not only loving to Israel he loved every body. He was removing the people of Canaan because they defiled the land with all the inequities.

Otherwise they will be a stumbling block in your ways and will learn the culture and learn to worship foreign gods. But they didn’t heared the word of the God. They were not removed the foreigners and their gods among them. They learned the culture of them and they worshiped their gods. ‘But you must not make an agreement with the people who live in this land. You should tear down the altars where they worship.’ But you have disobeyed me. Why would you do such a thing? At that time I also warned you, ‘If you disobey, I will not drive out the Canaanites before you. They will ensnare you and their gods will lure you away’ (Jud: 2:2-3)

During the period of judges they went 111* years of captivity to other nations. During the parenthetical period of 400 years and 111 years they fully learned the culture of gentiles and became stiff-necked. When they looked different people during the period they found them, they did not have any sufferings, well fleshed and wealthy, but the godly people suffer mentally and physically and they became pail and thin because of bad nutrition. When there were no judges they went their own way and did according to that.

From the generation to generations they completely looked at others and compared themselves with others. They do not have such problems, they do not have sufferings, they do not have punishment. So they shined in their eyes. But they forgot that ‘the eternal life’ in side them that they do not have. That can not be seen with naked eyes. On the outward look they are well-fed. As the Asaph they looked out side they envied those who are proud, observed the prosperity of the wicked, they suffer no pain; their bodies are strong and well-fed. They are immune to the trouble common to men; they do not suffer as other men do. But finally Asaph went to the council of God to understand about the end of these people. Then I entered the precincts of God’s temple, and understood the destiny of the wicked. Surely you put them in slippery places; you bring them down to ruin. (Ps: 73) But the people of Israel didn’t go to the council of God to under stand about the fate of the other people and didn’t reconcile with God. But their eyes opened to look outsiders. In those days Israel had no king. Each man did what he considered to be right. (Jud: 21:25). They went their own way and considered them self to be right as like other nations. So they wanted to be like other nations. They learned the culture, worship and customs of other nations than that they learned about their creator.

For although they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or give him thanks, but they became futile in their thoughts and their senseless hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for an image resembling mortal human beings or birds or four-footed animals or reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the desires of their hearts to impurity, to dishonor their bodies among themselves. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshiped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them over to dishonorable passions (Rom: 1:21-26)

They might have thought that the prosperity of the land was because of they worshiped their gods. Before the Israel conquered the land of Canaan, they plucked the grapes and two men carried and pomegranates and figs. Obliviously they though the fertility of land was because they worshiped their gods and not the Jehovah the creator. When they came to the valley of Eshcol, they cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they carried it on a staff between two men, as well as some of the pomegranates and the figs. That place was called the Eshcol Valley, because of the cluster of grapes that the Israelites cut from there. They returned from investigating the land after forty days. (Nu: 13:23-25)

When they serve God Jehovah, and if they disobeyed the commandments definitely He will punish and cut off from the land that he promised. The land will not give fruits; they will not pluck the grapes as they plucked before they conquered the land. So they learned the culture of others, they have not removed other nations among them. They want to be like others. But God want to be His people live as nations alone. So again and again they went in to the captivity of gentiles.

Their desire to be like others at the zenith, they were eagerly seeking out an opportunity to open their desire, they came to Samuel. ‘So all the elders of Israel gathered together and approached Samuel at Ramah. They said to him, “Look, you are old, and your sons don’t follow your ways. So now appoint over us a king to lead us, just like all the other nations have.” (Sam: 8: 4-5) The selfless man didn’t think about his sons, his heart was burned because they rejected the living God and they want to be like others.

Samuel spoke to the God and he said to the people all the consequences of their decisions, that the Kings of the gentiles and doing and enjoying with his preys. But the stiff necked people refused to heed Samuel’s warning Instead they said, “No! There will be a king over us! We will be like all the other nations. Our king will judge us and lead us and fight our battles.” (Sam: 8:19-20). They want the king not because to fight their battle against their enemies. Samuel took a stone and placed it between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, “Up to here the Lord has helped us.” So the Philistines were defeated; they did not invade Israel again. The hand of the Lord was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel. (Sam:7:12-13) They won with out King. The earlier battles they might not have been seen, but this younger generations see the battle ‘Ebenezer’, they want king because they want to be like others.

Now the modern Christians want to be like others. In the churches they says, others have rallies to show off their strength, we would also need, other denominations have committees for their activities and we also needed. Others worshiping gods like that, we will also follow that. God want we would be like nation living alone, because He is concerned about our eternity. If He gives us everything, we will loose our eternity. The loving father knows how to discipline us in this world because He want his children to in His eternal home, but we want to mingle with other customs and want to be like other nations.

The same thing happened in the days of David. When David had a vision to bring the ark of God to his city. Instead of he consulted the elders and Levites he consulted with his military officers, including those who led groups of a thousand and those who led groups of a hundred. David said to the whole Israelite assembly, “If you so desire and the Lord our God approves”. David got the majority hundred percent. The desire of David was right. The ways he sought was not right.

‘David assembled all Israel from the Shihor River in Egypt to Lebo Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim. David and all Israel went up to Baalah (that is, Kiriath Jearim) in Judah to bring up from there the ark of God the Lord, who sits enthroned between the cherubim – the ark that is called by his name. They transported the ark on a new cart from the house of Abinadab; Uzzah and Ahio were guiding the cart, ‘ while David and all Israel were energetically celebrating before God, singing and playing various stringed instruments, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets’ (1 Chr. 13:5-8)

The desire was right, he got hundred percent vote, they sung well and they danced well and instruments were played well. But some thing happened there, just before entering the city of David. They went a long way, almost they reached the gate of the city of David, the oxen stumbled!!

Every thing was right, music, dance, celebrations and he got vote of full assembly.!!! But David was angry because the Lord attacked Uzzah.

The same thing happened to day also. We will think everything was right, when God interfering in between we will get angry!!. The council was not right. Instead of seeking the council of elders he sought the council of head of his armies. He got the new idea of brining the ark of God in a new cart, the oxen dragged. But the God had given the law how to move the ark of the God from one place to another. But how David got this idea. Obliviously for the history that Philistines sent back the tabernacle to Israel (1 Sam: 5). When the ark of God drag by new oxen, nothing happened there. But here the oxen stumbled. Why? The people who got the law should seek the Lord as per law, but the people didn’t get the law, they themselves are became a law!!. We will get angry, why God done so? We done right things, but God cut some thing. God does not want to enter the custom of non law people to the churches. We might get majority, fund, the best musical troop, most modern sound systems and instruments. But god does not please, because the council is not from God.

Elections are entered in to the churches, politics and vote entered in the churched. Pastors and elders sought council from politicians to resolve the problems of the  churches. Gathering in the star hotels. Tries to resolve the problems in courts. We are doing all these because we want to be like all other nations. Now the God is not interfering. We can go up to the city of heavenly Jerusalem. But just before entering the city of heavenly Jerusalem God will interfere. !!

But we should learn for the attitude of ‘man of god’s own heart’ in the 1 Chronicles chapter 15. He repent what had happened, he sought the council of God, sanctified Levities and he danced before the ark of God than that he done earlier. When he sought the God as per Law, God pleased and finally the ark of God established in his city.

What we want to be? Like all other nations?

We got the law and we should seek God according to that.

When we started our discipleship Jesus asked first you should sit and count whether you can complete your discipleship, if you can come, i.e. if you can not go back. (Luke 14:28-30) What is our object?

We will worship the Lord our God and obey him as per the law and we want not to be like other people. We want to be like alone. When you worship God you will be alone!!. Your nearest relatives will go far off, your pastor, your elders and every body will leave you alone. God want you to be alone, then only God can speak to us lovingly.

Let us examine, how we are? Whether we are like others or we want to be like others? Whether we worship like others and want to worship like others?

The most important question is whether we sit any where to count the cost? Of course we should sit and count whether we can complete the life to live alone. If we can not our life is most pitiful life. We can not enjoy the world or heaven. If we want to be like all other nations the heaven is far from us. Let us sit down and count and walk. Jesus Christ is not interested in multitude. He wants his nation to be alone and should be recognized from other nations. But we are naughty and rebellious and say ourselves ‘We will be like all the other nations’

When you say so you are refusing God. We should be alone, our church should be alone, our family should be alone… and so on.

What you want to be? The choice is before you at your figure tip.
