So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.
Abraham went through some tough testing to become the ‘man of faith’ that he finally
became. He left his ancestral home because God asked him to, set out for an unseen land
because God asked him to, built altars wherever he pitched tent to worship the Lord who
called him, hoped against hope because he believed that God who promised would fulfill it,
overcame periods of disbelief by hearing God’s voice and obeying it and looked to the
ultimate reward that he was to get.
Regarding him, the author of Hebrews says,
By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance,
obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he made
his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as
did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking
forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. By faith
Abraham, even though he was past age - and Sarah herself was barren - was enabled to
become a father because he considered him faithful who had made the promise. And so
from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars
in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore. (Hebrews 11:8-12)
Regarding him, the Apostle James writes,
Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his
son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and
his faith was made complete by what he did. (James 2:21, 22)
Faith building exercises are never easy and most of us believers never enjoy them.
I have seen people puffing and panting when they try to build their bodies in the gym. It’s
never easy, picking up those weights, doing those bench presses or sit ups or push ups or
running long distances. But after a while they see the ultimate results and that brings the
The Bible says, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who
comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek
him. (Hebrews 11:6)
So let us seek God earnestly and be blessed along with Abraham, "the man of faith."
