Matthew 17:5
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”
On a high mountain with Peter, James and John, when Jesus was transfigured and spoke with Moses and Elijah who appeared there, Peter had plans of his own and he voiced them, but was stopped by the Father in heaven, who explicitly told him..... “This is my Son, w...

This morning as I went out for a walk, I noticed a few birds hopping and bathing in the small water pools, near our residence. The water came from a sprinkler system that watered the grass on the lawns. As I watched, the bigger birds time and again scared away the smaller birds like the sparrows by charging at them. There was enough water for all but the attitude of the big birds was surprising. The water was not theirs, it was freely given, yet they were not willing to accommodate the smalle...

God is interested in details, that's for sure. Consider the minute details of many things that he has included in his Word, especially in the Old Testament books. Some of us skip through these to more interesting portions. Reading the book of Ezra this day, I noticed the author writing about the number of silver and gold articles that were brought back to Jerusalem by them who were released from captivity. I don't think anyone would have objected if the author had just mentioned that the gold...

Then this Daniel was distinguished above the presidents and the satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm. Then the presidents and the satraps sought to find occasion against Daniel as touching the kingdom; but they could find no occasion nor fault, because he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him. Then said these men, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him conce...

The Believer's Inheritance
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. (1 Peter 1:3-5)

I was pondering how much a change the Holy Spirit brings in our lives once we come to Christ and submit to the Word Of God. While in college, there was a time when bad language and coarse jesting dominated my life, perhaps not when with family, but when with friends and colleagues. It became a way of life, so as to say, for the company was so. But when I accepted Jesus as Savior, things started changing. The Spirit of God used the Word to cleanse me and the words that came to my mouth were fi...

I was reading about the history of the Bible the other day and was amazed how painstakingly manuscripts of the Old Testament and New Testament were written before the printing press was invented.
Manuscripts were written initially on papyrus (thin paper-like material made from the papyrus plant) and later on parchment or vellum (processed skin of animals). Papyrus scrolls were around 35 feet long, and about 10 inches high.
Imagine yourself holding one of these instead of the prin...

The Lord watches over you; the Lord is your shade at your right hand.... (Psalm 121:5)
When Abraham stayed in Gerar, he said of his wife Sarah, "She is my sister." So Abimelech, king of Gerar sent for Sarah and took her. But God came to Abimelech in a dream one night and said to him, "You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken; she is a married woman." Abimelech had no bodily relations with her, so he said, "Lord, I am innocent. The man told me she w...

Reading about William Tyndale recently, I realized that many are the heroes of the Christian faith, some among them martyrs, who have paid the price for the translation, printing and publication of the Bible in English.
Tyndale, called by some as "The father of the English Bible", underwent immense persecution, imprisonment and finally was strangled and burned at the stake in 1536 for translating the Bible in to English.
At a time when Bible translation was prohibited...

An old pastor used to visit my clinic in Kerala, India, a few years back. He was in his nineties, short, bald and very frail. It was on the insistence of his children that he used to come for check ups. The moment he stepped in to the clinic, I knew he was there, because he always had a song in his mouth regarding the Lord Jesus Christ. Most of his songs were regarding eternal life and life with Jesus in heaven. It seemed that he was already living in heaven though on earth. Hope and confiden...

God, The Watcher
Then the Lord said to Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" "I don't know," he replied. "Am I my brother's keeper?" The Lord said, "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground. (Genesis 4:9, 10)
The first murder on earth had taken place and the Lord was watching it all. Cain had killed his brother Abel because he was jealous and angry that God had looked with...

But in your great mercy you did not put an end to them or abandon them, for you are a gracious and merciful God. (Nehemiah 9:31)
What a great privilege it is to serve a merciful God!
Nehemiah writes about God's "great mercy" towards his chosen ones. Despite their unfaithfulness and stubbornness, God did not put an end to them or abandon them.
He did punish them for their rebellion, but did not put an end to them or abandon them.
His p...

God, The Adorner
The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. (Genesis 3:21)
Adam and Eve, who realized they were naked after they disobeyed God and had eaten the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, were clothed by God for the first time with garments of skin. God cared for them even though they had disobeyed him.
In his righteous judgement, he drove them out fr...

In that day; "Sing about a fruitful vineyard: I, the Lord, watch over it; I water it continually. I guard it day and night so that no one may harm it."(Isaiah 27:2, 3)
God desires that his chosen ones be fruitful; that his church be a fruitful vineyard; so He watches over it, waters it and guards it. In a world filled with chaos and confusion, God's vineyard is kept safe by God, despite furious and repeated attacks of the enemy.
Everyday thousands...

God, The Righteous Judge
But the Lord God called to the man, "Where are you?" He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid." And he said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?" The man said, "The woman you put here with me - she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it." Then the Lord God said to the woman, "What is this ...

God The Arranger
So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. (Genesis 2:21, 22)
God did not want his first creation "man" to be alone and so he decided to make a helper suitable for him. Anesthesia and ...

God The Planter
And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. (Genesis 2:8)
God was in love with his creations from the beginning, so we read in the first two chapters of the Bible. Jesus spoke of Father God as the gardener.....
"I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. (John 15:1)
This was not something the Father started when Jesus did ...

God, the life giver
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
The breath of God brought life to the first man created by him and he became a living being. Every organ in his body started functioning simultaneously. And then God brought to him the woman who was made out of one of his ribs; and he exclaimed..." This is now bone of my bones, and flesh ...

God rested
Genesis 2:2
And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
It was not that God was tired that he rested after creating all things. So, was he setting an example for his human creations then? Perhaps! Our bodies and minds need rest regularly so that they are refreshed. A refreshed body and mind can function better than them that are stressed...
