Then the men of Judah came to Hebron and there they anointed David king over

the house of Judah………When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at

Hebron, the king made a compact with them at Hebron before the LORD, and they

anointed David king over Israel. David was thirty years old when he became king,

and he reigned forty years. (2 Samuel 2:4, 2 Samuel 5:3, 4)

The prophet Samuel had poured the anointing oil on David long back, but in reality it took

a long time for David to sit on the throne as the ruler. God had told Samuel that He had

chosen one of the sons of Jesse as the king of Israel and that he was to go and anoint him.

Samuel obeyed God and did so. Then God went in to preparing David for becoming king. A

shepherd of sheep had now to be transformed into a shepherd of God’s people and God

orchestrated circumstances to build David as a king. During those times, he went through

several traumatic experiences, difficulties, pain and rejection; but finally matured into a

better person who would win many great victories. God molded him and finally when he

was ready, God made him sit on the throne.

After gaining victory over his enemies David sang,

He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He

rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. They

confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support. He brought me

out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. The LORD has

dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he

has rewarded me. (Psalm 18:16-20)

It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like

the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle;

my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You give me your shield of victory, and your right

hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. (Psalm 18:32-35)

Jesus is also preparing us to sit with Him on the throne. That’s what written in Revelation

“To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I

overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne.”

Overcome….Sin…Satan….World….to sit on the throne.
